Growth Highlight: Successfully Admitted to a Doctoral Programme
Doctoral Programme: The Education University of Hong Kong
Research Area: Entrepreneurship Education; Values Education
As an emerging scholar in education who considers myself more emotionally intuitive than purely rational, I chose to study the Master of Arts in Chinese Values-Based Leadership Education [MA(CVBLE)] out of a long-standing reflection on the essence of education. My previous teaching experience has shown me that education goes beyond the transmission of knowledge; it also requires the guidance of values. Through this programme, I hope to explore how traditional Chinese values can inform modern school management, teacher development, and student growth, while laying a strong foundation for my future work in educational research and practice.
During my studies, the greatest challenge was learning how to transform abstract values into educational initiatives that were both theoretically informed and practically implementable. To meet this challenge, I engaged in extensive reading, analysed school-based cases, revised my assignments through multiple rounds, and integrated insights from peer discussions with my own teaching experience. Gradually, I developed a more comprehensive framework for understanding education.
This journey helped me move beyond the perspective of a teacher or implementer. I began to see more clearly the interconnections among policy, leadership, teacher professional development, and student needs, while becoming more aware of the value orientations that shape every educational decision.
A key outcome of this learning journey was my deeper engagement with educational issues concerning gifted individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Through systematic study, I worked to translate professional knowledge into accessible forms of public communication, examining how society can view the characteristics of this group more appropriately, reduce misunderstanding and stigma, and promote a more inclusive culture.
This experience led me to realise that inclusive education is not merely about offering support; it is also about reshaping the way people understand, communicate with, and relate to diverse learners. Guided by the belief of “giving my best and returning with fulfilment,” I hope to pursue further studies and continue exploring and growing in the field of educational research and practice.
