Ms Twiggy Chan, Founder and Executive Officer of Boaz International Education Centre, and Ms Mary Sun, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Chief Happiness Officer Association, both recipients of the “2022 Greater Bay Area Outstanding Young Women Entrepreneur Award”, were invited to The Education University of Hong Kong on 13 October 2025 to deliver a guest lecture titled “Chinese Leadership” for students of the Master of Arts in Chinese Values-Based Leadership Education programme. The lecture was hosted by Dr Ho Chun-sing and focused on the integration of educational innovation, frontline corporate management experience, and modern leadership practices.
Demonstrating Resilience and Transformation across Diverse Fields
The lecture aimed to explore the core ideas of Chinese leadership and inspire participants to reflect on its challenges and opportunities in diverse professional contexts. Drawing on their real-life entrepreneurial journeys and management experience, the two guest speakers examined the application of leadership from the perspectives of education and corporate management.
Ms Twiggy Chan, who holds multiple professional roles as a registered teacher, social worker, and registered Davis Dyslexia Facilitator, shared her extensive experience in both teaching and entrepreneurship. In particular, she discussed her work in special education and inclusive education, illustrating how leaders can demonstrate resilience amid adversity, market challenges, and the expectations of different stakeholders, while guiding their teams through continuous growth and transformation.
Ms Mary Sun, with extensive experience in corporate training and organisational development, shared her journey in founding the Chief Happiness Officer Association. She highlighted that modern corporate leadership should not only focus on performance and efficiency, but also on employees’ well-being and holistic health. By creating a happy and healthy workplace, leaders can cultivate positive energy, empower team members, and enhance organisational productivity and market competitiveness.
Fostering Cross-Sector Exchange and Inspiring Leadership Innovation
The lecture served as a valuable platform for exchange between the education sector and the business community. Through the authentic case studies shared by the two outstanding women entrepreneurs from the Greater Bay Area, students gained deeper insights into how Chinese leadership can be practised across different professional settings.
Their sharing highlighted the importance of resilience, innovation, and human-centred care in effective leadership, while encouraging participants to reflect on how they may enhance their own leadership capacity in educational and professional contexts.
During the interactive discussion, the speakers exchanged views with students on topics including educational innovation, team management, organisational happiness, and leadership development. The lecture further broadened students’ understanding of Chinese values-based leadership and inspired them to consider how leaders can respond to challenges in times of change while promoting the continuous innovation and development of leadership education and practice.
