Mr Ricky Wong Kwong-yiu, MH, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Wheelock Properties Limited, delivered a lecture titled “Temple Management: How to Apply It to Corporate Management” at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 24 April 2026. The guest lecture highlighted the integration of traditional cultural insights with modern commercial leadership practices.
Mr Wong explored how temple culture and management wisdom can offer unique guidance and inspirations for corporate governance, strategic planning, and leadership development in today's fast-paced business environment. Drawing on his extensive experience as the Chairman of the Finance and Management Sub-committee of the Chinese Temples Committee, he shared how overseeing traditional institutions enriched his perspective on organizational resilience. He emphasized that while commercial metrics focus on efficiency, ancient cultural heritage provides a framework for community trust and long-term sustainability.
Mr Wong explained that managing historic temples involves balancing diverse community expectations, meticulous resource distribution, and preserving cultural values. He connected these practices to corporate dynamics, illustrating how the core principles of institutional transparency, accountability, and adaptive structural governance can be directly mapped from temple operations to mainstream corporate strategy. By treating long-standing cultural institutions as case studies of longevity, he presented a distinct leadership mindset centered around stewardship rather than short-term gains.
In his closing remarks, Mr Wong encouraged the future leaders in the audience to think broadly and find management wisdom in unconventional places. He reminded students that sustainable corporate success is deeply rooted in social responsibility and the preservation of communal well-being.
